Dental disease in children is one of the most common chronic diseases, but one which is totally preventable. Thankfully, treatment is paying off at the local level via events such as “Give Kids A Smile” and parents are becoming more aware of the need for preventative dental care.
Thanks to local dentists and federal subsidies, there are 3 community dental clinics in western Nevada County providing dental services to children.
“According to the California Dental Association, all children should receive their first dental checkup by 1 year of age, allowing for early detection and possible reversal of the decay process.”
If parents would monitor their kids brushing their teeth, and ensure that their intake of sweets and starch is kept low, then tooth decay could easily be reduced or even eliminated.
