Bleeding Or Swollen Gums

Gum disease is a common condition caused by the build up of plaque.

If you have bleeding gums and/or bad breath, this is know as gingivitis, and if untreated, can lead to periodontitis which affects the tissues that keep your teeth in situ.

If periodontitis is left untreated, it could lead to:

  • gum abscesses
  • receding gums
  • jaw bone decaying
  • loose teeth
  • loss of teeth

Always visit your local dentist if your gums are sore, swollen, or they bleed when brushing your teeth – they may check condition of your teeth and jaw bone via xrays.

Minor cases of gum disease can be treated easily via good oral hygiene (brushing and flossing often).

If you have a more severe form of gum disease, you may need to undergo specialist surgery.  (source)
