Your First 30 Days With Dentures

Whether you have used a kit to make dentures or had them crafted by a dental professional, it can take a little bit of time to get used to the new dentures in your mouth.

Day 1: Don’t panic, it’s your first day. Eat soft foods.

Day 2 to 14: Your mouth will be starting to adjust to your dentures. You will probably notice an increase in salivation and possibly some sore spots in your mouth. Rinse your mouth out with salty warm water. If the soreness persists you should visit your dentist.

Day 15 to 29: Increased saliva and soreness should have reduced now. Use denture adhesive sparingly to improve the fit of your dentures.

Day 30: Enjoy your favorite food as a reward. Plan regular visits to your prosthodontist to check your dentures. It’s normally advised to replace your dentures every 5 to 10 years.
