Over $1 million of free dental treatments was provided at the Florida State Fairgrounds recently in a two-day free dental event organized by the Florida Dental Association which served 1660 patients.
Stella Mikesell of Brandon got to the fairgrounds at about 4:30 a.m. on March 28 with her teeth hurting. She didn’t expect the line to be as long as it was. By the afternoon, Mikesell had one tooth filled, another pulled. She didn’t have dental insurance to help pay the bill.
Almost 1500 volunteers offered their time and skills providing all types of dental treatments because many are not able to visit a dentist on a regular basis which compounds small dental problems which can laster turn into dental emergencies.
